What is hyperbarics?

Hyperbaric medicine is a medical treatment in which the patient is placed in a pressurized chamber and is breathing 100% oxygen*. Under air pressure that is 2-3x higher than normal air pressure, a patients lungs are able to gather much more oxygen.

When first engineered in the 1960's Hyperbarics, or HBOT, were used for decompression sickness that commonly effected scuba divers. Fast forward 50 years, HBOT has been studied to treat and/or alleviate symptoms of many chronic illnesses and injuries.

*Revival Hyperbarics uses medical grade equipment in which the patient is breathing 100% oxygen at a higher atmospheric pressure. Known as hard chambers, this allows the patient to benefit from hyperbaric medicine in a shortened time period and with the most the benefits.

How do hyperbarics work?

01.

HBOT helps wound healing by bringing oxygen-rich plasma to tissue starved for oxygen.

When injuries damage the body's blood vessels, the body releases fluid that leaks into the tissues and causes swelling. The swelling deprives the damaged cells of oxygen, and tissue starts to die. HBOT reduces the swelling while flooding the tissues with oxygen. The higher pressure in the chamber increases the amount of oxygen in the blood. HBOT aims to break the cycle of swelling, oxygen starvation, and tissue death.

02.

HBOT prevents "reperfusion injury"

This is the severe tissue damage that happens when the blood supply returns to the tissues after they have been deprived of oxygen. For example, when blood flow is interrupted by a crush injury,  a series of events inside the damaged cells leads to the release of harmful oxygen radicals. These molecules can do damage to tissues that can't be reversed. They cause the blood vessels to clamp up and stop blood flow. HBOT encourages the body's oxygen radical scavengers to seek out the problem molecules and let healing continue.

03.

HBOT helps block the action of harmful bacteria and strengthens the body's immune system.

HBOT can disable the toxins of certain bacteria. It also increases oxygen concentration in the tissues. This helps them resist infection. In addition, the therapy improves the ability of white blood cells to find and destroy invaders.

04.

HBOT encourages the formation of new collagen and new skin cells.

It does so by encouraging new blood vessel to grow. It also stimulates cells to produce certain substances, like vascular endothelial growth factor. These attract and stimulate endothelial cells needed for healing.

05.

HBOT encourages the release of our bodies stem cells.

After patients reach about 20 hours of hyperbaric therapy, we begin a process of releasing stem cells from our bone marrow for musculoskeletal issues and in our nervous system for healing brain and nerve tissue. We can achieve a level of stem cell mobilization roughly eightfold as a result of HBOT.

At Revival Hyperbarics, we are dedicated to helping our patients achieve better health and healing through the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Hyperbarics has been utilized to treat a variety of conditions, ranging from skin grafts to Lyme disease, with exceptional results. Today, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is being used to treat many more medical conditions such as traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's, Autism, and many more. Our clinic has some of the most advanced technology and expert staff in the industry, ensuring that our patients receive the best care and outcomes possible.
